I have previously worked with Women who were pregnant or just had a baby and oral health care came up often.
We talked about tips to maintain their oral health by doing the following:
Brush twice a day and floss once a day.
Schedule a dental visit while pregnant. If pregnancy gingivitis does occur go to the dentist to remove plaque buildup and gargling daily with a warm saltwater rinse (one teaspoon of salt in one cup of warm water)
We also discussed improving oral health by:
Eating a healthy diet.
Lowering intake of sugary foods and beverages.
Brushing after eating sticky, sweet foods that cling to teeth, such as raisins, dried fruit, gummy fruit snacks or chewy candy and
Quitting smoking or using tobacco products.
