Meet the 3rd-place winners of VibeSolano’s 2024 #OnePillCanKillSolano Fentanyl Prevention Video Contest!
Danielle, Charlotte, Michael, Levi, and Joshua (not pictured) were all part of Vanden High School‘s Friday Night Live (FNL) chapter. With assistance from their Team advisor Mr. Kenyon, they submitted their fentanyl prevention video posted above.
In the past couple of years with the fentanyl crisis, their group has been challenged to create numerous forms of communications and media to raise fentanyl awareness. They participated in another video contest with SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), a national organization, and held numerous local town halls at Vanden High School. FNL is dedicated to encouraging youth to create a positive impact on their lives.
Fentanyl is a looming crisis and their video depicted the dangers of counterfeit pills. Mr. Kenyon stated, “It was shocking to learn we couldn’t tell the difference between a real pill or a fake pill, a street pill”. Although the students haven’t personally witnessed counterfeit pills sold on their campus, they have heard about it at different local schools. “It’s relatively common,” Levi says. Mr. Kenyon is blown away by how dangerous it is. He says, “Just a pencil tip size amount can take someone’s life and then an amount in the size of a soda can could kill everyone in Solano County”.
When creating this video, Danielle was “trying to think out of the box” and thought “What would people resonate with?” “We wanted to make an impact but also not do something too much or too serious at the same time,” Charlotte says. Before the filming process, Levi and his group asked, “What is something kids seriously deal with about this drug and how can we convey that in a meaningful manner so that they can understand that this is a serious topic and it should be dealt with seriously?”
We think they did an awesome job with their video! Join us in congratulating Danielle, Charlotte, Michael, Levi, Joshua, and Mr. Kenyon!
